    Question 2a (8 Marks)

Why did you choose the specific image(s)?

    Your explanation must include:

    a) Business relevance

    • This image is relevant to my business because it clearly displays my product. It shows popular manga titles that are easily recognizable to anime and manga fans. Along with displaying the product, it shows a young person who is infatuated and engaged with the manga they’re reading. This shows how engaging and enjoyable manga is for fans.

    b) Target audience alignment

    • The reason why this image aligns with my target audience is the overall aesthetic of the image. The image portrays a comfortable and enjoyable experience while reading manga. The reason it reaches my audience is that it taps into the culture of reading. The image shows how immersed you can become in manga, in terms of the collection of manga and manga-themed merchandise.

    c) Image intent

    • The intent of the image is to communicate the brand to customers. As previously stated, the image displays immersion and enjoyment. The core messaging is that manga is more than just books, it’s an experience that anyone can be a part of.

    d) Why does this visual work better than alternative visual approaches

    • This image works because of its general aesthetic and authentic feel. Theres nothing screaming at viewers of the image or overwhelming them. Its a simple image with a clear message. This image works because its a reflection of most manga, comfortably enjoying their favourite manga titles.

    Question 2b (8 Marks)

Explain in detail how the image(s) strengthens the post from a digital marketing perspective.

    You may reference:

    • Attention economy

    • Scroll behavior

    • Visual hierarchy

    • Brand perception

    • Trust building

    • Emotional triggers

    • Information processing

    • Conversion influence

Be analytical. This is not a design reflection. This is marketing reasoning.
The image strengthens the post by appealing to emotions. The image makes viewers feel as though they are the ones in the image, it portrays a comforting aesthetic as well as an immersive experience with manga. In terms of attention economy, the image strengthens the post by displaying popular manga titles that are easily recognizeable. The image also guides viewers attention by starting with the person in the center who is reading manga and then drawing the viewers attention to the popular manga titles around the person in the image. The engagement the person in the image has with the manga they’re reading creates a want for manga for viewers and can drive them to purchase simply because they see someone else enjoying manga.

  • Question 1

    1. Question 1

Visuals are not decoration. They are communication tools. Provide three strategic reasons why visuals are essential to effective web content. For each reason:

    • Clearly explain the concept

     • Provide a real-world example (not generic statements)

Marks are awarded for depth, not surface-level answers. (6 Marks)

The first reason visuals are essential for web content is that people process visuals much faster than text. The majority of the information our brain processes is through visuals. An example of this is graphs. Rather than displaying a bunch of numbers, present the data in a visual format that is easy to understand and process, such as a pie chart, line graph, or bar graph. The statistics are displayed in a way that you can clearly tell that one item is greater or lesser than another without complicating it with numbers.

The Second reason why visuals are important for web content is speed. People’s attention spans aren’t long, and digital marketers operate under this understanding. When driving people to a website, if they are not satisfied with what your website offers, they will leave within a few seconds. It is for this reason that visuals are important. Rather than flashing visitors with long paragraphs, images and videos can be used to summarize what needs to be said. Using this strategic approach is beneficial because you can give visitors all the information they need within a few seconds, and they won’t have to do the work of reading. This way, you aren’t wasting any of their time, and they will likely be more inclined to stay on your website.

The third reason why visuals are important for web content is trust. When selling a product, fear can often lie with customers due to not truly understanding the product based on a description. This is where images and videos come into play. Images and videos that display the product in use or show off its features can reduce fear or anxiety for customers when deciding to purchase. An example of this is Amazon. Amazon provides many images and videos that display the products they sell, along with the product features. This can push customers further down the funnel and encourage them to buy.

  • Question 4

    4. For question #2, what did you do differently from the original post? Please outline, explain and justify what you changed & why. Essentially, what did you learn from this new topic and what did you change and why. (8 Marks)

The main thing I did differently from my original post was to add a headline. My previous post lacked a headline and had few attention-grabbing qualities. I added a headline to convey the message of the post to my audience from the beginning. Another thing I did differently was to make sure to hit every point I needed. I answered the Who, What, Where, and Why for my audience in my post. I also bolded some words and phrases. I did this to direct the reader’s attention to the most important details and to avoid making them read more than they felt was necessary. The last thing I changed was the way the post was written. My revised post was written in plain English to improve readability and shorten the length of time viewers spend reading. These changes are important and necessary because they match the behaviours of a reader in this modern day. What I have learned is that people in today’s age can’t or won’t read, therefore it is improtant to adapt content to their style of consumption and present it in a way that makes them want to read and not shy them away.

  • Question 3

    3. For question #2, explain how your new post successfully addresses the three main objectives of Plain English writing as discussed in class. Provide a detailed breakdown of each objective. (9 Marks)

     a. Describe one specific technique you used to improve readability in your revised version and explain why it is effective. (4 Marks)

     b. What was the most challenging aspect of applying the F-Pattern and Plain English writing principles? How did you overcome it? (5 Marks)

The first objective of plain writing, which my revised F-pattern introduction addressed, is speaking clearly. In my introduction, I used short words to communicate with my audience and stated exactly what my business is and what I offer. The point of this objective is to communicate the details of my business effectively so as not to confuse viewers. The next objective is writing concisely. This objective was addressed by writing short sentences and only adding necessary information. The point of this objective is to keep information to a minimum and only provide relevant information to readers. The last objective is precise writing. In my introduction, I spoke directly to my audience in a way they can understand. The point of this objective is to capture the attention of the viewers and keep them interested by speaking to them in their language.

One technique I used to improve readability for viewers is making the important information bold. By bolding certain words, I can direct the attention of the readers to certain parts of the introduction, giving them the information they need without wasting too much of their time. This is effective because it keeps the reader engaged and gets the message across without making them read more than they would like.

The most challenging aspect of applying the F-pattern in plain English writing was staying concise as well as providing enough information. Writing in plain English requires you to dumb down your text as much as possible; however, for a business introduction, you need to provide a sufficient amount of information for visitors to understand your business. Providing enough information in plain language wasn’t simple. To overcome this issue, I put keywords and phrases in bold to direct the reader’s attention to specific details that they are most likely looking for.

  • Question 2

    2. In a previous assignment, you wrote an introduction article in the “F” pattern. Based on what we discussed in class and based on the feedback provided in class, write a new introductory “content” incorporating “plain English writing for the web” in the “F” pattern including visuals. You are to include your “revised version” (if the version you submitted was not in the F-Pattern). Ensure that it addresses the three main objectives of plain English writing. As a reminder, this is an introductory post for your business. Ensure you list it in your hardcopy. (12 Marks)

  • Question 1

    1. We spoke about Plain English writing in class. Please answer the following in detail:

    a. How would you explain to someone what “Plain English writing” is? (4 Marks)

    b. What makes plain English writing different? (4 Marks)

    c. What is plain language writing for the web and in detail and in your own words, why is it important? (4 Marks)

Plain English writing is the process of simplifying text to create a clear and concise message for the viewer. The text is simplified as much as possible because viewers don’t like to read. Plain English writing makes reading easy for viewers by dumbing down sentences and using short words so as not to confuse readers. What makes plain English writing different is its focus on brevity; the writing is straightforward and designed for readers who don’t want to spend much time reading. When writing in plain language, you’re writing for a particular audience in mind, which means that you have an idea of this audience’s reading habits and capabilities. If you are aware that this audience can’t read well or won’t read a lot, plain English writing is the way to speak to them. For the web, plain English writing is the process of shortening copy on a website and using words and terminology that visitors can easily understand. If the copy on a website is hard for visitors to read or too wordy, visitors will bounce from the site. The goal of plain English writing is to give visitors as much information as possible in as few words as possible.

  • Question 4 – Part B

    4. Second-Year Course Headline (4 marks)

Create one headline promoting second-year digital courses in this program, targeted to first-year students.

    You must provide:

    a) Provide the headline

    b) Explain your reasoning clearly using class content

Headline: Digital is the new wave, learn more about digital design and better your skills

This headline is worded in plain language to meet the intended audience on their level. Simple and common words are used to avoid confusing or overwhelming readers. The headline is concise and straightforward, clearly stating what the article promises. The headline creates intrigue by encouraging readers to “read more”.

  • Question 3 – Part B

    3. SCC Advertising Program Headline (6 marks)

Create one headline for an article about the SCC Advertising Program, targeted to local graduating high school students.

    You must provide:

    a) The headline

    b) An explanation of the information missing from the instructions

    c) A detailed justification for your headline choice based on course concepts

You are intentionally not being told what questions to ask.

Headline: 17 high-paying jobs you can get after taking the St. Clair ADV program

The instructions of this question were to create a headline for the SCC ADV program, targeting local high school graduates. With this in mind, I need to speak to my audience, my audience being high school graduates within the Windsor-Essex area. With the audience defined, I then need to speak clearly to them in a way they can understand. Using plain language is important for this step so as not to confuse or overwhelm readers with big words. Once I know who I’m talking to and how to talk to them, I can structure the headline. This headline utilizes a number. As previously stated,d numbers draw attention and increase click-through rates. The headline is also concise and promises something specific. The headline creates intrigue for the target audience because it directly applies to them and promises useful information to the reader.

  • Question 2 – Part B

    2. Headline Intent vs Outcome (4 Marks)

Choose one headline you created in Part B, Q#1 Part B and answer the following:

    a) What is the primary intent of this headline? (e.g. curiosity, urgency, clarity, relevance, emotional pull)

    b) What action or response is the headline designed to trigger?

    c) Explain why this intent is appropriate for the target audience you selected.

Using the second headline from question 1, part B: Are you a lonely man? Here are reasons as to why that might be: the primary intent of this headline is curiosity. The headline is posed as a question, provoking the thoughts of the reader and making them think of what is being asked. The response this headline is meant to trigger is an answer to the question being posed. The headline makes the intended audience reflect on their own personal experience and come to their own conclusion. This intent is appropriate for the target audience because the topic is very specific and likely applies to the reader, the reader being a male who is potentially lonely. The headline calls to these men and makes them reflect on their personal experience.
