b. What was the most challenging aspect of applying the F-Pattern and Plain English writing principles? How did you overcome it? (5 Marks)
The first objective of plain writing, which my revised F-pattern introduction addressed, is speaking clearly. In my introduction, I used short words to communicate with my audience and stated exactly what my business is and what I offer. The point of this objective is to communicate the details of my business effectively so as not to confuse viewers. The next objective is writing concisely. This objective was addressed by writing short sentences and only adding necessary information. The point of this objective is to keep information to a minimum and only provide relevant information to readers. The last objective is precise writing. In my introduction, I spoke directly to my audience in a way they can understand. The point of this objective is to capture the attention of the viewers and keep them interested by speaking to them in their language.
One technique I used to improve readability for viewers is making the important information bold. By bolding certain words, I can direct the attention of the readers to certain parts of the introduction, giving them the information they need without wasting too much of their time. This is effective because it keeps the reader engaged and gets the message across without making them read more than they would like.
The most challenging aspect of applying the F-pattern in plain English writing was staying concise as well as providing enough information. Writing in plain English requires you to dumb down your text as much as possible; however, for a business introduction, you need to provide a sufficient amount of information for visitors to understand your business. Providing enough information in plain language wasn’t simple. To overcome this issue, I put keywords and phrases in bold to direct the reader’s attention to specific details that they are most likely looking for.
